He was born in Coucouron, Ardèche, son of Casimir Enjolras and Delphine Laurens. Enjolras studied under watercolorist Gaston Gérard at the "Ecole de Dessin de la Ville de Paris", as well as Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Beaux-Arts, and Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret.
