After studying music at the Conservatoire de Paris where he was a student of Lazare Lévy and Raymond Pech and where he obtained a degree in harmony July 9, 1937, Henri Betti was destined for a career as a classical pianist when he accompanied Maurice Chevalier in 1940. He wrote music for forty songs in collaboration with the latter until 1945 ("Notre espoir", 1941 ; "La Chanson du maçon", 1941 ; "La Fête à Neu-Neu", 1943).
