He was a King's Scholar at Eton College, where he learned to row in 2007 and was the stroke of the Eton eight that won at Henley Royal Regatta, the National Schools Regatta and the Schools' Head. After Eton, he started a Classics degree at Trinity College, Oxford. He was in the six seat of the winning Oxford Blue boat at the 2011 Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.
