Dylan was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of Ricky Anne (née Low-Beer) and Ralph Lauren. Her brothers are businessman David Lauren and filmmaker Andrew Lauren. Her paternal grandparents were Belarus-born Jewish immigrants, and her maternal grandparents were from Austria. She graduated from Duke University in 1996, where she studied art history. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta (Theta) at Duke. Dylan's Candy Bar was inspired by seeing Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on her fifth birthday. She describes it as the most "memorable birthday party I ever had. I must have been in kindergarten, and I had all my friends over. Somehow my parents got a print, set up a movie screen in our house, and did a little show there. It was like going to Disneyland."

Lauren and longtime boyfriend hedge fund manager Paul Arrouet married in June 2011. The Ceremony was held in NYC where she wore a bridal gown of her father's design.
